A Tibetan wine made from barley, millet, or rice grains, chaang is a delicious drink for those looking to quench their thirst in Leh. The white-coloured drink is quite popular in places where Tibetans have resided over the years. Chaang is known to have very little alcoholic content, and can be very comforting in the cold weather. Another variation of this drink is called tongba, which is made by allowing water to pass through fermented barley. This is then served in a pot with wooden straw. If you look around Leh, you might get both these variants. An interesting myth surrounding Chaang is that it is the favourite drink of Yeti, the mythical creature that is famously known as the abominable snowman.
