The quirky Food and Art Café is a friendly local community canteen on the picturesque island of Giudecca that serves simple but rich and tasty Venetian food. This self-service canteen is popular with students and local workmen, but offers a warm welcome to anyone who wants to try a quick and affordable Venetian meal. There are plenty of pastas, seafood, sandwiches, and other quick bites available from €5. They also serve good coffee and pizza. Rick Stein even recommends this place, and you can even get a full lunch with wine for less than €15.
As the name suggests, the Food and Art Café also has a nice art gallery which is worth a look and the island of Giudecca has some of the best views over Venice. Food and Art Café is only open at lunchtimes and from Monday to Friday only.
