More often than not, it is the most unassuming of places that serve the best food and Chitose is a shining example of this belief. A tiny eatery with zero fancy interiors and a capacity of mere twelve people, Chitose is easy to miss but shouldn't be. This discreet establishment whips up what could possibly be the best Okonomiyaki (savoury pancakes) in Osaka. With fillings ranging from different kinds of seafood, vegetables, meat and noodles along with a generous drizzle of spicy sauces and mayonnaise, all wrapped up in an eggy blanket; expect a staggering number of flavours to perform a medley in your mouth. You can wash down your hearty meal with the reasonably priced beer that they have to offer.
The most striking aspect of this joint is that you can watch your food being prepared by the amiable English-speaking owners, who seem to be adept at the art of making these beautiful, delectable edibles. The waitresses are equally sweet. A pocket-friendly place that will keep you coming back for more with its yummy offerings, Chitose rightfully makes it to every list of the best places to eat in Osaka, despite its ambience (or the lack of). Don’t judge a book by its cover.
