The smell of caramel and chocolate wafted through the air the moment I pushed the tall, green doors open. And as I stepped into this inviting establishment, an array of freshly baked breads, gigantic meringues and a gorgeous display of perfectly symmetrical cakes greeted me. A very Parisian bakery with an inexplicable charm, Bakeshop is impeccably pretty and is a Mecca for those with a sweet tooth. Do not let the crowds deter you while you gorge on slices of marble cheesecake, carrot cupcakes with lemon frosting and sinfully decadent chocolate cakes. Every dessert here is nothing but a work of art. Their coffee, chocolate croissants and sandwiches are also popular among locals and therefore shouldn’t be missed.Interestingly, you need to be an experienced gymnast of sorts to get to their window seats which are nestled behind metal bars that double up as tables. Both getting in and out is a major challenge but take that chance if you are a people-watcher. The streets outside are full of character and bustling with activity. This café is also a good place to meet like-minded people and have meaningful conversations; after all, birds of a feather flock together. Do not forget to get some goodies packed for yourself because speaking from personal experience, Bakeshop cravings are inevitable.
What to eat: Marble cheesecake and basically everything else.
