Located right beside the Prague Castle, the origins of the Strahov Monastic Brewery or the Klasterni Pivovar, Strahov date back to the 13th century! The learned monks of the monastery were masters of several trades and brewed their own ale and the dexterity is still very much evident. Humongous copper brewing kettles stand like giants inside the cosy establishment and offer you two distinct varieties of beer—Dark and Amber. While I am not the biggest connoisseur of this beverage and the elaborate processes involved in brewing the same, I can with a lot of confidence say that both variants taste heavenly. While one is sweet and deliciously creamy, the other is lighter and has fruity undertones.
The food served here deserves a special mention because beer happens to be a major ingredient in almost all of the dishes and the flavours are brought out beautifully. I vividly remember how gladly I devoured a plate of honey crepes laden with beer ice cream and generously speckled with walnuts. I was ready to turn myself into a religious person right after the first bite. Strahov also has a wonderful array of salads in case you intend to eat healthy. Look for a table outside if the weather is good. The stunning maple trees are great company.
What to eat: Honey crepes with beer ice cream and dark beer.
