Wander about without a care in the world – situated on Lindenhof Hill, on the left bank of Limmat river, Lindenhof is the oldest part of Zürich. This is the heart of the city where the historical town of Zürich flourished. It is the site of Celtic, Roman and medieval ruins. The square on the hill was a central post holding bazaars in the medieval times. The Roman castle built in 2nd century stood tall until 13th century, it served as a residence of the King Louis the German in 9th century. Lucius Aelius Urbicus' grave stone from 2nd century was found on Lindenhof hill in 18th century. A copy of the tombstone is placed in the Lindenhof wall at Pfalzgasse, leading to St. Peter church. The idyllic square on top of the hill is a prime recreational area for the locals who can be spotted playing chess around the park. Spend an afternoon in the historical place, and mull over Zürich’s Roman connections. Enjoy the spectacular panorama of the old town of Zürich and the River Limmat flowing in front of it.
