Fraumünster Church is one of the four main churches of Zürich. The Green steeple of the Fraumünster Church towers over the Western bank of River Limmat. The original church was built in 9th century by the King Louis the German, and served as an abbey for the aristocratic women. The church and the abbey enjoyed political supremacy till 14th century. Only the church from the earlier construction has survived, rest of the buildings were destroyed in 19th century. The external brick facade of the church is brightened up by the Green steeple. The highlight inside the church includes the choir of the abbey with 5 large stained glass windows designed by Swiss artist Marc Chagall in 1960. These are stunning treasures of this medieval edifice. The stories created with vivid colours on stained glass depict the life and events of the Christ, Prophets, Jacob, Zion, and the Moses. The fresco of "The Heavenly Paradise" created by Augusto Giacometti in 1945 adorns another glass window. Take a tour inside and admire series of frescos by Paul Bodmer depicting the founding of the monastery and of the city's patron saints Felix and Regula. The Crypt Museum inside is worth visiting for the show of multimedia installation which narrates the history and architecture of Fraumünster Church. The tour of Fraumünster Church is a great way to get acquainted with the Swiss aristocracy, and the legends associated with it. The marvellous decoration on glass windows will leave you spellbound.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
