Pretty in pink, this is the City BeautifulWord to the wise: A vintage style trolley runs every 10-15 minutes connecting north to south along Ponce de Leon Boulevard and east to west along Miracle Mile.
Talk of the town: Al Capone, Judy Garland and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor have all bunked at the historic Biltmore Hotel on Anastasia Avenue.
With aspirations to be an American Venice, Coral Gables stands out amongst the rest of Miami for its air of Mediterranean glamour. But its manicured prettiness is no accident; the pet project of 1920s real-estate developer George Merrick, he imagined a garden city to rival Europe's finest. The already fanciful architecture would have been even grander if it weren't for the Great Depression.
Nonetheless, this rarified neighborhood with its tree-lined streets and stucco houses has earned its name as City Beautiful, and one of Miami's most elegant suburbs. Head to Miracle Mile for the dozens of restaurants and bars or boutique shops, and take a dip in the magical Venetian Pool.
