The worldwide hubWord to the wise: The MIA Mover, an above-ground automated people-carrier, opened in September 2011 connecting passengers to the adjacent transportation hub Miami Intermodal Center, the best place to pick up rental cars.
Six miles from Downtown Miami, MIA is a horseshoe-shaped, three-terminal airport with over 80 airlines serving 150 destinations worldwide. Each day 100,000 travelers pass through the airport whose public spaces are covered in ever-changing contemporary art.
MIA has a baggage checkroom, restaurants, including outposts of Miami favorites Icebox Café and Café Versailles, duty free shopping, business center and wi-fi access in all terminals. Visitor information is open 24/7 at the Main Visitor Counter - Second Level, Concourse E, +1 305 876 7000.
For travelers with extended layovers, Miami International Airport Hotel offers day rates and late checkout - Level 2, Central Terminal E, +1 305 871 4100.
The most efficient public transport option is the Airport Flyer express bus to Miami Beach with several stops on route (Mon-Sun: 6am - 11pm, USD 2.35), while the cheaper Metrobuses go to Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, and Metrorail stations (Bus station: Ground Level, Concourse E, +1 305 891 3131).
Taxis are available at arrivals (Concourses D, E, F, and H), but the SuperShuttle vans, which make multiple stops, are less costly - +1 305 871 2000 - though naturally a little slower.
