Medieval meets modern in the Gothic Quarter

Located on the eastern side of Las Ramblas, the Gothic Quarter is the heart of Barcelona's Old Town and getting pleasantly lost in its maze of ancient, narrow streets and hidden squares is a quintessential part of any visit to the city.

If you prefer a more directed approach, start in Plaça Catalunya and walk down the pedestrian shopping street to Plaça de la Seu, where you can see the stunning Gothic cathedral and the Roman walls that used to ring the city. Next, stroll along Carrer de Ferran and Carrer d'Avinyó and check out the many small boutiques.
After your dose of culture and shopping, head to Plaça Reial, grab an outside table at one of its many bars and restaurants, have a bite and people watch.
