Josh Tongue to Shubman Gill, A bouncer, but way down the leg side, left alone.
Josh Tongue to Shubman Gill, FOUR! 50 FOR GILL! In his very first match as Test captain and that too, in 56 balls! And what a batter this guy is. Having the ability to correct his previous shots. The previous shot was a pull to a short ball, straight to one of the two fielders at short mid-wicket. This one is a similar ball. But Gill adjusts ever so slightly, waiting for that one extra second, to pull the ball in front of mid-wicket and to the right of the second fielder, who cannot get it with a slide to his right.

Josh Tongue to Yashasvi Jaiswal, SIX! THUMP! If short ball ploy it is, then attack will be the response! A clear-cut message from the young Jaiswal. Short ball again, but this time, there is plenty of width outside off. As has been the case throughout this innings, Jaiswal does not want to let go of the opportunity. Reaches out, leaps and cuts it over point. There is a fielder in the deep but the ball sails over! The first six of the match. The stand moves to 80 (94).

DRINKS BREAK. 67/0 in 13.2 overs since Lunch. If the first session was poor, this has been nothing short of miserable so far for England. With the Dukes ball getting softer and not generating any movement, the inexperienced bowling attack is just not able to keep the Indians quiet. Not to take anything away from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, who have made merry against some really shoddy bowling. And this is despite the conditions being totally overcast, which means, entirely in England's favour. Gill has just looked top notch, showing excellent technique against the moving ball while Jaiswal seems to get ready for the long haul. He just seems like a student of the great Graham Gooch, who used to say, 'Don't just get hundreds. Get Daddy hundreds.' Jaiswal might be the one who gets a granddaddy hundred. Meanwhile, Gill gets some massage on his hip but gets up quickly with a smile. Time for spin. Here's Shoaib Bashir.
