England vs Italy Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: England beat Italy by 24 runs to qualify for Super 8s

England vs Italy Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: England entered the contest needing a win to secure their passage to the Super Eights, and they were tested by a spirited Italian side before prevailing by 24 runs in a high-scoring Group C clash.

After opting to bat, England began aggressively with Phil Salt striking 28 off 15 balls. However, wickets fell at regular intervals. Jos Buttler managed only three, Jacob Bethell scored 23, and Harry Brook fell for 14 after a brisk start. When England slipped to 105 for 5, the innings needed stability and acceleration.

Jacks provided both. Displaying clean striking and composure, he dismantled the Italian attack with calculated aggression. His unbeaten 53 off 22 balls powered England to 202 for 7, with Curran offering strong support during their rapid sixth-wicket stand.

Italy’s reply faltered immediately under Archer’s pace, which touched 146kph and yielded early breakthroughs. Reduced to 22 for 3, Italy appeared overwhelmed. Yet Ben Manenti flipped the script with a remarkable assault, hammering five sixes and four fours in a 60 off 25 balls. His 22-ball half-century ranked among the fastest of the tournament. Alongside Justin Mosca, who struck 43, he added 92 in just 48 deliveries to revive hopes.

The turning point arrived when Jacks dismissed Manenti, caught by Tom Banton. Adil Rashid removed Mosca soon after. Grant Stewart’s late 45 kept England alert, but Curran’s double strike sealed the outcome.

Italy were dismissed for 178 in 20 overs, as England held firm to progress.

DRINKS BREAK. This is some collapse by England. But is it due to excellent bowling by Italy? Ummm... well the bowling has been good, but the stroke making has not been that great. There is a thin line between bravery and recklessness and time and again, England keep fighting with themselves to draw and find that line. They back each and every batter to go out and play strokes from the word go without even wanting to have a look at the pitch. And in that process, they can very well get to 300 at times, but other times, they could fall well short of 200. No doubt in thinking what is going to come next. Bang and more bang. England will back themselves to get to 200-210 from here on but Italy need to stay calm and believe that they can get opportunities if they keep the ball in the right areas. It is just the ground fielding which has let them down so far and they need to tighten things up overall if they are to keep England under 170. Jaspreet Singh has been given the ball now.

It goes towards deep mid-wicket where Benjamin Manenti comes forward a touch and takes it low above the ground! The well-set Banton departs as well and from 54/1, ENGLAND ARE NOW 105/5!

JJ Smuts to Harry Brook, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Smuts gets the reward for bowling cunningly. After targeting the stumps in the previous couple of balls, he pushes it wide outside off, and offers a good bit of flight on this one, on a length. Harry Brook is forced to reach out, does not get to the pitch of the ball and throws the kitchen sink at it, trying to slash it through the off side, but only manages a faint outside edge. Gian-Piero Meade, the keeper, swiftly moves to his right and takes a fine catch. He appeals and the umpire raises his finger. Brook trudges off without reviewing and England are in trouble now with 92/4 on the board.

England vs Italy Highlights, T20 World Cup 2026: Will Jacks produced a stunning all-round display to guide England cricket team to a 24-run win over Italy national cricket team and confirm their Super Eights qualification at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on Monday.

Batting first at Eden Gardens, England posted their first 200-plus total of the tournament, finishing on 202 for 7. Jacks led the charge with a blistering unbeaten 53 off just 22 balls, striking four sixes and three fours. His late assault rescued England after they had stumbled to 105 for 5. Sam Curran added a valuable 25 as the pair stitched a crucial 54-run stand in just 25 deliveries.

Italy’s chase began in disastrous fashion as Jofra Archer’s fiery opening spell reduced them to 22 for 3. However, Ben Manenti launched a breathtaking counterattack, smashing 60 off 25 balls, including a 22-ball fifty, while Justin Mosca added 43. Their 92-run partnership briefly shifted momentum.

Jacks broke the stand at a key moment, and despite a late flourish from Grant Stewart (45 off 23), Italy were bowled out for 178. Curran and Jamie Overton claimed three wickets each as England sealed their place in the next round.
