Important donations to make

Charity and donations are an important part of Hinduism and Sanatan traditions. Giving and providing to not just the Gods, but also to the people in need, is said to help collect good karma on an individual’s part. And keeping Karma aside, the positivity and good energy that donating and charity brings in unmatched. Something as little as feeding a cow, or donating clothes to the senior home, can bring a change in your fate and fortune, help purify your soul, and give you a rush of positive energy.
And so, here we mention 6 things to give and donate that are believed to change people’s fate for the better.

2/7

Donate and feed jaggery to cows

Cows have a holy status in Hinduism, and they are placed next to mothers for they too nourish humans. And it is believed that donating jaggery to ‘Gaushalas’ (place where cows are kept) or feeding the cows jaggery with your own hands is a very pious activity and can help you earn merit in God’s eyes.
Feeding a cow is said to change people’s fate by bringing more peace into their lives, and removing any obstacles from their way. It is also said that by feeding a cow jaggery you invite sweetness into your life.

Donate matchsticks in a Hanuman temple

Lord Hanuman, the symbol of strength, courage, and devotion, is loved and respected by all. He is a God who is also a devotee and is one of the few Chiranjeevi who lives close to humans. When talking about donations, it is said that if people donate a box of matchsticks to a Hanuman temple, especially on a Tuesday, the day dedicated to Lord Hanuman, it helps light a fire to any evil or negativity that could be latching onto you.
Plus, donating a box of matchsticks is also thought of as a way to ask Lord Hanuman to show you the light to the right way of life, and remove any ignorance from your mind.

Donate salt to community food drives

Langars and bhandaras have been an important part of Hindu rituals for decades now. After every major puja or festival a ‘Bhandara’ is organised to feed the poor and needy, and ensure that no one goes to sleep on an empty stomach.
And it is believed that when you donate salt to a place or temple where Bhandara is being organised, it helps clear and remove any blockages in your financial paths. People say that by donating salt you can experience better finances, and wealth generation, and money starts coming back to you from places it was stuck in.

5/7

Donate mats in temples

Another object to donate that is believed to help change your destiny is a seating mat. A mat or an ‘aasan’ as most people call it is used in temples for priests and for devotees who go there to sit, do Kirtans, participate in pujas and rituals, and more.
And so, by donating mats and aasans for not just the Gods and Goddesses, but also for the priests and devotees, it is said that people start to experience better status in society. It is also believed that when people donate something on which others can sit comfortably for their prayers and worship, they too receive the blessings of peace and calm.

6/7

Donate and light ghee diyas

Holy Basil, or Tulsi as the plant is called in India, is a very important part of Hindu culture. The Tulsi plant is believed to be a symbol of purity and devotion, and having a healthy and flourishing Tulsi plant at home is said to hint towards a healthy household with positivity and wealth.
And so, it is said that when people donate ghee diyas to temples to light around the Tulsi plant or when they do it themselves, it helps them get the blessing of wealth and removal of ignorance. It is believed that lighting a ghee diya next to the Tulsi plant helps bring clarity to the mind and removes the ‘darkness of ignorance’ from a person’s life.

7/7

Floral ‘chhatr’ to temples

A popular belief says that if people donate a silver or gold ‘chhatr’ or canopy as it is called in English, to a temple and have it placed over an idol of a God or Goddess, it helps in increasing their respect in the society. But, as the silver and gold chhatr can be expensive, people also donate floral canopies to temples. Just like a canopy does the job of protecting an idol or a temple from rain, wind, and excess sunshine, donating it also protects the devotee from the hardships of life. Offering a chhatr is seen as a way to get the protection of the divine and to be shielded from harm or misfortune.
