Popular music director Sam CS celebrates his birthday today and many celebrities are taking to their social media handles to wish the ace composer. Having started his career in 2012 with Ambuli, Sam has come a long way in Kollywood. From giving us super hit songs in Vikram Vedha to now being busy with Madhavan's ambitious Rocketry: Nambi Vilaivu, here's looking at five times when the composer impressed fans with his music

Even though he made his debut as a composer in the sci-fi thriller Ambuli in 2012, it was Puriyaatha Puthir that helped him reach the masses. The album was highly appreciated by several music lovers and critics, and many songs from the film were a hit. However, it was Mazhaikkulle that became an instant earworm. The song sung by Haricharan and Shreya Ghoshal, with lyrics by the composer himself, is still a favourite for many.

Ever since Vikram Vedha came out, Sam became a sensation and was considered to be a promising music director in Kollywood. Be it the songs or the background score, Sam killed it with his music. While every song in the album is earworm-worthy, Yaanji sung by Anirudh Ravichander and Shakthisree Gopalan and Karuppu Vellai by Sivam & Sam CS simply stands out. Composing for dance-based films can be challenging. You need to have tracks that make one instantly groove, and of course, also have songs that go with the script. But Sam didn't disappoint in Lakshmi. From the theme music to the hit Morrakka, which has crossed over 112 million views, dance lovers can't get over the music of Lakshmi. Morrakku has Uthra Unnikrishnan in the vocals, with lyrics by Madhan Karky.

Who didn't like Kannamma? This was the first song that was released by the makers and the song was loved by music lovers. The song is hummable and danceable, and topped the charts for several weeks when it was released. His combination with Anirudh also seems to be working well, with the latter killing it with his voice. Crossed over 55 million views, there is no stopping Kannamma.

Sam creates magic instantly. Just like how his songs from other films became an instant hit, this one from Ayogya made it to the playlist. The song Kanne Kanne sung by Anirudh Ravichander and lyrics by Vivek has crossed 19 million views and no stopping. Sam has a series of films lined up in Tamil. He has also taken up projects in Telugu and Malayalam.
