Pooja-AbhinetriSteamy scenes in Kannada films turn up the heat

There is no denying that sex sells onscreen, and Kannada filmmakers have seldom shied away from including a little skin show in their films. If it isn't a steamy sequence involving the lead pair, the next best bet is a hot item number featuring an actress who either makes news for her raw sensuality, or someone who is willing to gyrate in skimpy outfits. In fact, a 2013 study by sociologist Prof GK Karanth of the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) revealed that the Kannada film industry produces more adult-rated films than ever before, and much more than the national average.
Here's a look at some films/scenes that have set pulses racing....

Abhinetri was Pooja Gandhi's first venture as producer. The film, a retelling of the life of tragic heroine Kalpana, had Pooja in the lead. Kalpana was believed to have been involved with a popular filmmaker in her heyday. Pooja's film explored this and much more and had the actress in some very steamy scenes involving actors Atul Kulkarni and P Ravishankar. In fact, the actress has a hot love-making scene with Atul in the film.

Ragini Dwivedi in Namaste Madam
When you are the boss, who is trying to seduce an employee, it is bound to be steamy. And more so when the boss in question is Kannada star Ragini Dwivedi. She was paired with Srinagara Kitty in this Kannada adaptation of the Telugu film Missamma. And Ragini was her sensuous best onscreen as she serenaded the actor. If they weren't dancing seductively, the two actors were frolicking on a water bed.

Sindhu Loknath and Satish Ninasam in Love in Mandya
They may not be the hottest pair in Sandalwood. But given the right setting, even they can set pulses racing. In the film Love in Mandya, Sindhu and Satish were seen getting up close and personal in the song Current Hoda Timealli. Sung by Bappi Lahiri, the song is about the dilemma a young couple faces about what to do when there is no power and how they yearn to get all touchy-feely. The choreography really lived up to the lyrics and had the actors finally in a hut which shook suggestively at the end of the song.

Kavita Bora in Male Niluvavarege
Director-actor Mohan's film was a thriller, but it had ample skin show. The film had three ladies in it -- Kavita Bora, Soujanya and Bhumika. Their only job was to show cleavage, thighs or navel, as the situation required. And their contribution to the story was summed up by most reviews as Kavita - skin show, Soujanya and Bhumika -seductive moments. This film had its fair share of steamy scenes.

Kamini in Red
The recent Kannada release Red was publicized as an erotic thriller. So naturally, there was bound to be a lot of skin show. In a film that dealt with a married woman having a paramour, there was a lot of onscreen making out. Lead actress Kamini did not disappoint. She paraded around in skimpy outfits -- sometimes just a towel -- and showed plenty of skin.
