Trichy: A 60-year-old woman lost her gold jewels while traveling in a moving bus, allegedly due to pickpocketing. A case was registered on Tuesday, three weeks after her initial complaint.
The incident dates back to May 17.
According to police, on May 17, N Rani, a resident of Ganesapuram in Trichy boarded a city bus from the head post office towards a jewel shop near Singarathope. Upon arriving at the shop, Rani noticed that the gold chain weighing two sovereigns and a gold ring weighing four grams, which she had kept in her purse, were missing.
Rani went to the Fort police station and lodged a complaint. The police issued her a CSR the next day.
Over the next three weeks, the Fort police investigated and confirmed that Rani had lost her jewels during her travel. They suspected that she might have been pickpocketed in the moving bus.
On Tuesday, based on Rani’s complaint, the Fort police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for theft and launched an investigation.
