Sugar haul continues on Meghalaya- Bangladesh border
“Two separate joint operations with local police on Monday resulted in the apprehension of four Indian smugglers and the seizure of more than 44,000 kg of sugar loaded in six vehicles near the international border of South Garo Hills in Meghalaya. During the operation, troops from 1 Battalion BSF noticed suspicious movement along the international border and promptly initiated the operation. As a result, 790 bags of sugar were seized, and four smugglers, residents of Goalpara in Assam, were apprehended,” a spokesperson at the BSF Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters here said on Tuesday.
Earlier, the BSF, along with the police seized a huge quantity of sugar meant for being smuggled to Bangladesh near the border area in the district.
