Lucknow: Customs air intelligence unit (AIU) at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Friday morning, arrested a passenger and seized 10.39 kg of hydroponic weed, worth Rs 10.39 crore.
According to customs authorities, the passenger, identified as Manpreet Singh, arrived at Lucknow airport on Oman Air flight WY-265. Based on his suspicious travel profile, he was intercepted for questioning by the immigration authorities.
“During preliminary inquiry, he allegedly admitted to acting as a drug carrier and was subsequently handed over to the AIU for further examination,” said an official source.
Customs officers subjected his baggage to detailed scrutiny and searched his checked-in luggage. During the examination, officials recovered 13 polythene packets concealed inside a trolley bag. The packets contained hydroponic marijuana.
The recovered narcotics were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Following the seizure, Manpreet Singh was arrested under provisions of the NDPS Act.
