Kottayam: Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday registered a case of attempt to murder against police personnel, including former chief minister’s gunman and guard, who are accused of assaulting KSU-Youth Congress members during the Navakerala Sadas yatra.
SIT submitted the new report to the court adding non-bailable sections as the first and second accused in the case, Anilkumar and
Sandeep, were to move a petition in the Alappuzha judicial first class magistrate court on Saturday.
The district sessions court earlier rejected the anticipatory bail applications filed by Anilkumar and Sandeep. Following this, they were planning to surrender before the court and obtain bail. Upon learning this, SIT arrived at the court and submitted the new report and thwarted their move to surrender before the court.
The anticipatory bail applications of other accused police personnel Arun, Vipin and Shaiju, who escorted the chief minister’s vehicle, will be considered by Alappuzha district sessions court on Wednesday.
