Police find no basis for action in actor’s complaint
Kochi: Police concluded that there is no basis for initiating criminal proceedings against actor Lakshmipriya and a woman police officer attached to Tripunithura women’s cell on actor Ansiba Hassan’s complaint accusing them of harassment and unlawful detention. An officer said Thrikkakara ACP had submitted a report to Kochi commissioner K Mahesh Kumar saying that there was no basis for initiating legal proceedings.
Hassan, a former joint secretary of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes, had accused AMMA vice-president Lakshmipriya of filing a false complaint against her. She had also alleged that SI Reshma, attached to women’s cell in Tripunithura, subjected her to unlawful detention while verifying this alleged ‘fake complaint’ against her.
The ACP conducted a preliminary enquiry by recording their statements and examining CCTV footage from Tripunithura Police station. Police sources said the report concluded that Lakshmipriya had approached the police over an ambiguous message sent by Hassan that allegedly caused problems in her family.
According to the enquiry, SI Reshma only performed her duty by summoning Hassan for verification and there was no evidence to support the allegation of illegal confinement. Hassan’s statement was recorded on May 31. Police have concluded that Lakshmipriya’s complaint against Hassan also does not warrant an FIR.
Reacting to the development, Hassan said she will approach a court of law. She alleged that she felt humiliated after SI Reshma allowed the presence of Lakshmipriya and her husband while she was being questioned. She also reiterated that she was forced to write an apology and was initially denied a copy of the same.
Meanwhile, Lakshmipriya said she will file a defamation suit seeking Rs 10 crore in damages, alleging that Hassan had repeatedly made fake accusations against her and her family.
