Kanpur: Human remains found at Kharauli Ganga Ghat in Unchahar police station area of Raebareli were identified by the family of ward boy Ankit Trivedi, 45 days after his murder in Kanpur, drew wide attention. The deceased’s father identified his son on the basis of clothing after seeing a yellow shirt and vest. As soon as the identification was made, cries broke out in the family and the atmosphere at home turned grief-stricken.
Ankit Trivedi (37), a ward boy at a primary health centre in Barabanki, went missing under mysterious circumstances on April 16. A subsequent police investigation revealed that his friend Satyam Mishra, along with associates Rehan, Shadab and Altamash, murdered him with the intent to rob.
According to the police, the accused called Ankit to accompany them and strangled him to death on the way with the intention of looting him. Police said the body was then thrown into a river in the Sultanpur Ghosh police station area of Fatehpur to destroy evidence.
After the murder came to light, police arrested four people, including the main accused, and sent them to jail. Teams of police, NDRF, SDRF and local divers continuously searched for the body.
A search operation was carried out for several days in the river and surrounding areas, but without success.
On Monday evening, acting on information about recovery of human remains at Kharauli Ganga Ghat, police and family members reached the spot. The deceased’s father, Vishnu Chandra Dwivedi, identified the remains as those of his son Ankit on the basis of clothing.
The news of Ankit’s remains being found shattered the family. At home, wife Diksha, daughter Trishika, mother Archana, father Vishnu Chandra and younger brother Raunak were in a devastated state, weeping inconsolably.
Wife Diksha said that for the past one and a half months, the family had been hoping for a miracle. They believed that perhaps Ankit would somehow return, but the news of the remains being found extinguished their last hope as well.
Police said a female accused involved in the crime was still absconding and raids were continuing for her arrest. Police stated that further legal proceedings in the matter were ongoing.
