Storm, hail uproot trees & disrupt power supply in Sanawad
Times News Network
Khargone: A brief but intense spell of strong winds, dust storm, rain and hailstorm caused widespread disruption in Sanawad town of Khargone district on Saturday afternoon, damaging property and affecting power supply in several areas.
According to the locals, strong winds accompanied by rain and chickpea-sized hailstones swept through the town for nearly 15 to 20 minutes. Several trees were uprooted in different localities.
In Irrigation Department Colony and Holkar Colony, an old tree collapsed onto a house, damaging its roof and a parked vehicle. No injuries were reported. Residents said that a major tragedy could have occurred had anyone been present near the spot when the tree fell.
The storm also damaged electricity infrastructure. Trees falling on power lines and poles disrupted power supply in several parts of the town. Electricity poles along the Indore-Ichhapur Highway and Khargone Road were also reportedly damaged.
Power department assistant engineer Amit Thakur said that power supply was temporarily shut down as a precaution and restoration work was undertaken on priority, with teams deployed to repair damaged cables and restore supply in affected areas.
