Drug money trail under scanner as Neemuch police plan asset freeze
Indore: Police in Neemuch will now strike at the financial core of narcotics networks, with senior officers indicating that future action will go beyond arrests and target assets, properties and proceeds generated through drug trafficking.Additional director general of police (Ujjain zone), Rakesh Gupta, on Thursday directed officers to intensify action against narcotics offenders and pursue measures aimed at dismantling financial foundations of the trade.“Merely arresting traffickers is not enough. Police teams have been directed to identify and act against the assets accumulated through narcotics-related activities. The emphasis is on disrupting the financial networks that allow drug syndicates to operate and expand,” said ADG Gupta.During a review of law and order in the district, Gupta told officials to intensify action against repeat offenders involved in drug trafficking and ensure strong legal representation in courts to oppose their bail applications.Highlighting Neemuch’s vulnerability due to its geographical location, Gupta said that curbing narcotics-related crime would remain a key priority. The direction assumes significance in the district that has frequently figured in anti-drug operations because of its proximity to trafficking routes.
Police sources said that scrutiny of properties, financial transactions and assets linked to suspected traffickers was expected to become a key component of future investigations.Major traffickers and drug syndicates would also face action under stringent laws, including the PIT NDPS Act and National Security Act (NSA), he said.Gupta also called for stricter action against organised crime, illegal activities and repeat offenders. Station house officers have been directed to keep a close watch on absconding accused and ensure prompt execution of warrants.
