In the previous election, BJP contested in 45 seats allied with TDP and won five seats—Musheerabad, Khairatabad, Uppal, Goshamahal and Amberpet. Hoping to emerge as a political force in the state, BJP national leadership has been giving special emphasis on the Telangana for the past two years. While BJP national president Amit Shah visited the state five times since May 2017 and addressed more than a dozen public meetings in the past two months, prime minister Narendra Modi toured twice and addressed public meetings at Hyderabad, Mahbubnagar and Nizamabad. Apart from the two bigwigs, union ministers, chief ministers from BJP ruled states and party leaders were roped in the election campaign.

BJP’s expectation of a rise in vote share percentage may mean a happier TRS
For state BJP, which fought the election alone claiming itself as the only alternative party in the state, the results will be a real litmus test. The party has contested in 118 seats (one seat is given to Yuva Telangana party). BJP has been claiming that it would win Telangana elections and it would be its gateway for the South. Needless to say, they would improve BJP’s Lok Sabha chances a lot.

Victory rallies not allowed in Telangana, say cops
Hours before counting of votes is taken up, additional director-general of police (Law and Order) Jitender said no victory processions will be allowed across the state. Briefing the media about security arrangements being made for counting of votes on Tuesday, Jitender said: “No permission will be given for taking out victory processions after the results are declared.”

Confident of win: Kutami leaders to Rahul Gandhi
AICC general secretary in charge of Telangana, R C Khuntia and TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday informed party president Rahul Gandhi that the People’s Front had bright prospects of winning Telangana polls. They met Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and told him that increase in the polling percentage wil work in favour of the Kutami as large number of people came out to vote against TRS due to anti-imcumbency.They also informed Rahul that Congress has put in place Plan-A and Plan-B. While Plan-A will be implemented in case of a clear majority and that Plan-B will be made effective in case of the mandate throwing up a hung house.

Congress is likely to airlift Praja Kutami candidates and prospective independents in case of a fractured verdict on Tuesday. It has reportedly made arrangements to this effect. The move to keep the flock together and prevent possible poaching by rival parties comes after its bitter experience in government formation in Goa and Meghalaya earlier this year.

As per the Supreme Court order, the Governor has to first invite the single largest party to form the government. Our’s is a pre-poll alliance. The Praja Kutami, consisting of Congress, TDP, TJS and CPI, should be considered as one party

Congress alliance solidarity show at Raj Bhawan, seeks first invite
In its effort to build up pressure on Governor E S L Narasimhan to recognise the Congress-led Praja Kutami and invite it first to form the govenment, in case the alliance emerges as the single largest party after results are declared on Tuesday, a delegation of Kutami leaders submitted a memorandum to this effect to the Governor at Raj Bhavan here on Monday.

Both KCR and MIM had declared much before the polls that they were ‘friendly parties’. Though TRS fielded its candidates from the seven seats the MIM held, it was only as a strategy and not really to dislodge the MIM. However, in another seat Rajendranagar, both MIM and TRS fielded candidates, which appeared to be a serious contest.
