Heavy rainfall in Mumbai on Sunday night caused waterlogging in several areas, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue orange to red alerts for Mumbai and its suburban regions, while also affecting other parts of Maharashtra and Odisha with significant rainfall activity.



The IMD posted on social media platform X that Mumbai and suburban areas would continue to experience light to moderate rainfall for the next 3-4 hours.



"Orange to red colour warnings for moderate to heavy spells of rainfall with moderate thunderstorms with squally winds 50-60 kmph issued for Mumbai and suburban areas during the next 3 hours," the IMD stated.Between 8 am on May 25 and 8 am on May 26, Mumbai recorded 58 mm of rainfall in the city area, 19 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 15 mm in the western suburbs.

Waterlogging was reported in several parts of Mumbai after heavy rainfall on Sunday late night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued orange to red alerts for the city and surrounding areas of Mumbai and suburban areas.

Taking to social media, X India Meteorological Department (IMD) wrote, "Light to moderate spell of rainfall is likely to continue over Mumbai and suburban areas during the next 3-4 hours."

Water transport services between Mandva (Alibag) and Mumbai will be suspended from May 26 due to the onset of the monsoon season. Similarly, access to the ASI-maintained Janjira Fort in Murud taluka has been cut off as boat services have been halted earlier than usual. The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) has made this decision in light of deteriorating weather conditions and the need to ensure passenger safety. Services including yachts, ferries, speedboats, and Ro-Ro (rollon/roll-off) vessels will remain suspended until Sept 30.

Kerala Weather Live Updates: Red alert for 11 districts, high waves forecast for coastal areas
IMD issued a red alert for 11 districts in Kerala on Monday. All districts, except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha, are on alert for extremely heavy rainfall of more than 20cm in 24 hours, while the three districts are on orange alert.

Squally weather with wind speeds of 35-45kmph, gusting to 55kmph, is prevailing along and off the Kerala coasts. The coasts are on high alert as Incois issued a red-level alert for high wave warnings for Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kannur, Kasaragod, Kollam, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Thrissur coastal areas.

High waves in the range of 3.3 to 4 metres are forecast on Monday. Thiruvananthapuram coast is on an orange-level alert for high waves.

Karnataka Weather Live Updates: Landslides disrupt NH-75 amid heavy rain in Hassan, Chikkamagaluru
Heavy rain lashing Hassan and Chikkamagaluru districts for the last two days affected National Highway-75, connecting Bengaluru and Mangaluru. Landslides were reported on the Shiradi Ghat Road, near Donigal in Sakaleshpura taluk.

According to locals, excavation up to 100ft at a 90-degree angle on both sides of the road for the construction of a four-lane highway resulted in the landslide.

Delhi Weather Live Updates: Unseasonal thunderstorms bring cool spell, more rain likely
IMD has issued several alerts warning of more such weather events later this week, even though no colour-coded alert for the week ahead has been issued. It said recurring rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 50 km/h could be expected in the coming week.

Delhi’s maximum temperature on Sunday stood at 31.6 degrees C, nine degrees below normal. The minimum was 19.8 degrees C, seven below normal. The maximum is expected to be 3436 degrees C on Monday, with the minimum hovering around 24-26 degrees.

IMD said that while such thunderstorms are not uncommon during the pre-monsoon season when moisture-laden southeasterly winds interact with drier westerly winds, the intensity of Sunday’s event was magnified by three active weather systems — a western disturbance and two cyclonic circulations.

Continuous heavy rainfall since early Monday caused widespread waterlogging, traffic jams, and delays in local train services, especially across Mumbai’s island city.

Nariman Point recorded 104mm of rainfall between 9 and 10 AM, one of the highest hourly totals this season, with other parts of South Mumbai also experiencing heavy downpour. Low-lying areas and railway tracks were flooded, disrupting road traffic and suburban train operations during peak hours.

Central Railway and Harbour Line suburban trains faced delays and waterlogged tracks, while Western Railway services mostly continued normally. Local roads experienced bus diversions, congestion, and some closures due to water accumulation.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is scheduled to visit the BMC’s Disaster Control Cell at 2:00 PM today to review the rain situation and ongoing response efforts following the heavy overnight downpour.

Additionally, Mumbai Metro Line-3 train services are temporarily curtailed due to a technical issue, with trains operating only up to Worli Station instead of Acharya Atre Chowk.

Commuters are advised to stay updated and plan their travel accordingly amid these disruptions.
