Taiwan Fires HIMARS Toward In Chinese Direction In First Western Coast Live-Fire Drill | WATCH

Taiwan has carried out its first-ever live-fire HIMARS exercise along its western coastline facing mainland China, marking a significant evolution in the island's defense strategy amid rising tensions across the Taiwan Strait. The U.S.-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) was deployed during drills in Taichung that simulated a large-scale Chinese amphibious assault. Military units rapidly moved the truck-mounted launchers from concealed positions, fired their rockets within minutes, and relocated immediately afterward—demonstrating the "shoot-and-scoot" doctrine that has gained prominence during the war in Ukraine. Unlike Taiwan's previous HIMARS testing conducted on the island's eastern coast, this exercise was oriented toward the strategically sensitive Taiwan Strait, where Beijing has steadily increased military pressure through frequent air and naval operations near the self-governed island.
