Coimbatore: A guest worker’s body was recovered in a decomposed state, from under a bridge near Eluvayakkal, near Alandurai in Coimbatore district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as S Majiful Mondal, 37, from North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.
Police said a local resident alerted them after noticing a highly decomposed body under the Pallavari bridge, around 2.30pm on Monday. Alandurai police recovered the body and and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a postmortem.
Meanwhile, Parthasarathy, assistant director, forensic science department inspected the scene where the boy was found. During the inspection, items from the deceased’s wallet, including a driver’s licence and other identification documents, were recovered, helping establish his identity.
The preliminary examination by forensics revealed no visible external injuries on the man’s body. However, police said the exact cause of death can only be ascertained after the postmortem.
Alandurai police have registered a case and are investigating further.
