Six arrested for ‘Jana Nayagan’ movie leak
Chennai: At least six persons, including a software engineer, have been arrested by the cybercrime police for their involvement in the online leak and circulation of ‘Jana Nayagan’, which was Vijay’s last film originally slated for release ahead of the assembly polls. The accused were booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act, the Copyright Act and the Cinematograph Act.
Police identified one of the arrested men as Balaji, 34, a software engineer. The identities of the other five accused were withheld by investigators. They downloaded the leaked content and stored it on their mobile phones and electronic devices and shared them with others through digital platforms.
The investigation revealed that Balaji had links to a freelance editor who was arrested earlier in connection with the theft and leak of the film. All the six were produced before a magistrate court in Chennai and remanded in judicial custody.
