Heavy Rain and thunderstorms expected

Chennai and nearby areas will experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. Expect thunderstorms and lightning in some regions, with intermittent rain until Friday. Carry an umbrella to stay dry.

2/7

Cyclonic circulation driving rain

The rainfall is due to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, which is causing winds to strengthen. This system will bring rain to Chennai and several other districts, especially on Thursday. Rain may continue for up to four days.

3/7

Yellow alert for several districts

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, and other districts. Heavy rainfall of 6-12 cm is expected in some places, so be cautious and stay updated on the weather if you are in these areas.

4/7

Rainfall in specific districts

Heavy rainfall will affect districts like Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Mayiladuthurai, and Nagapattinam until 1 PM on Thursday. Other areas such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Pudukkottai will see lighter rainfall but still with thunderstorms.

5/7

Light rain in Southern Tamil Nadu

On Thursday, southern districts like Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai will receive light rain with thunderstorms. These areas may experience scattered rainfall with some lightning, so stay safe in open areas.

6/7

Temperatures and weather conditions

The temperature will range from 24-25°C at night to 31-32°C during the day. Though it will be humid, rainfall will bring some relief from the heat. Be prepared for fluctuations in temperature, with periods of cooler weather after heavy rain.

7/7

Rain may continue over the weekend

Rain will continue across many districts until November 12, with heavy rain expected in coastal and delta areas on Nov 9 and 10. Coastal areas from Chennai to the delta will see morning showers, with rainfall shifting southward after two days.
