Jail superintendents to face action for prison lapses: Minister

Chandigarh: Punjab jails minister Dr Ravjot Singh on Monday warned that jail superintendents and other officials would be held accountable for any violent incident, security breach or administrative lapse inside prisons.Chairing a review meeting with superintendents of prisons across the state at Punjab Bhawan, the minister said incidents of violence in jails would not be tolerated and responsibility would be fixed on the officials concerned.He directed prison authorities to adopt a result-oriented approach, regularly review their performance and take corrective measures wherever shortcomings were identified.The minister also asked jail authorities to strengthen education, skill development, healthcare and counselling programmes for inmates to facilitate their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
