Mohali: Four men have been arrested in Delhi with 15 mobile phones allegedly stolen during an IPL match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, last week.
The arrests follow complaints by spectators who reported theft of their phones during the May 27 match amid heavy crowding. A case was registered on May 28 at Mullanpur Garibdas police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Acting on technical inputs and intelligence, a special investigation team tracked the suspects and carried out a raid in Delhi on May 29, leading to their arrest.
The accused, Arbaz, Naveen Kumar alias Nikku, Hemraj alias Pucchi and Abdul Mugni alias Miyaz, are all residents of Delhi and adjoining Haryana areas.
Police said the accused, during interrogation, disclosed the location of the stolen devices, leading to recovery of all 15 phones believed to belong to spectators.
Officials are probing whether the accused are part of an organised gang targeting large public events and are verifying their involvement in similar incidents elsewhere.
The recovered phones will be returned to their owners after due identification and legal formalities.
