9-month-old baby girl adopted by Rohtak professor
Berhampur: A nine-month-old baby girl, who was given up by her unwed mother to the district child welfare committee in Gajapati district about six months ago, got a new parent and home in Haryana on Monday after an unmarried female professor from Rohtak adopted her.After following guidelines of Central Adoption Resources Authority (CARC), collector (Gajapati) Akshaya Sunil Agrawal handed over the girl to the woman in the presence of additional district magistrate Munindra Honnagea, district child protection officer (DCPO) Arun Kumar Tripathy and several others in Paralakhemundi.The woman had applied to CARC, New Delhi, four years ago, to adopt a girl but was reluctant to disclose her name. The girl was housed in the child adoption center near Paralakhemundi since six months, said Tripathy.He said altogether 84 orphan children from Gajapati district have been adopted by different persons in the country and abroad in the last eight years.
