IPL victory vigil: Police crack down on stunt riders, drunk drivers in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: As cricket fans took to the streets after RCB’s IPL final victory Saturday night, police launched a massive enforcement drive, targeting stunt riders, traffic violators, and suspicious vehicles to ensure the celebrations remained safe and orderly.
During the special operation, police checked 2,502 two-wheelers, 556 autorickshaws, and 458 four-wheelers. Strict action was taken against violators, with 83 two-wheelers, three autorickshaws, and one four-wheeler seized. Senior police officers, along with personnel of all ranks, were deployed on patrol duty across the city to maintain law and order amid celebrations.
North division police alone seized 75 vehicles, including 71 two-wheelers, three autorickshaws, and one car during the drive conducted across the jurisdictions of 13 police stations. Police said the vehicles were involved in wheeling, triple riding and other illegal activities.
260 drunk-driving cases booked
According to Anoop A Shetty, deputy commissioner of police (traffic, west) and in-charge joint commissioner of police (traffic), 13,000 vehicles were checked during the overnight drive. Over 260 drunk-driving cases were booked and 290 vehicles seized for violations.
