AMRITSAR : A government school teacher was brutally murdered in broad daylight near Amritsar on Monday afternoon. The victim was intercepted and attacked while returning home after dropping his teenage daughter at a tuition center.
The deceased has been identified as Jagdeep Singh, a resident of Talwandi Manak village. Singh was employed as a teacher at the Government Senior Secondary School ,Gehri Mandi, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jandiala Guru, Baljit Singh on Monday. He was returning after dropping off his teen aged girl to tuition , said Baljit adding that police had registered a case and investigating into the case.
According to law enforcement officials, the horrific incident took place at around 2:15pm when a group of unidentified assailants allegedly surrounded Singh on a deserted stretch of the road.
The attackers, armed with sharp-edged weapons, assaulted Singh repeatedly before slitting his throat. Due to catastrophic injuries to his head and neck and subsequent excessive bleeding, Singh died on the spot, said sources associated with the investigations. His body was later discovered lying on the road by locals, who immediately sounded the alarm.
A police team rushed to the scene to initiate a forensic probe.
"The severity of the injuries indicates a targeted and deeply violent attack," a police source stated. Police have launched a full-scale investigation and are gathering electronic and physical evidence from the surrounding area, said sources.
Speaking to media persons, distraught relatives said that Jagdeep was a peace-loving person with no known personal enmities or ongoing disputes.
However, preliminary police inquiries hint at a different dimension. Highly placed police sources revealed that initial findings suggest a simmering dispute within the family.
Meanwhile, police maintained that it is too early to pin down a single motive. Investigation teams are currently reviewing CCTV footage from nearby routes to identify the attackers and track their escape path, said sources.
