Amritsar Police bust cross-border drug smuggling module; 2 arrested

AMRITSAR: The Amritsar commissionerate police claims to have busted a cross-border arms and drug smuggling module with the arrest of two alleged operatives and the recovery of 2.225 kg of heroin, six sophisticated pistols, and 12 live cartridges.While talking to media persons on Wednesday, police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the accused, identified as Sukhdev Singh alias Sukh and Harjinder Singh alias Jinder, were apprehended during a targeted operation.Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with cross-border smugglers and were receiving consignments of heroin for further distribution among criminal elements in Punjab, Bhullar said.He further said that separate FIRs have been registered at Chheharta and Cantonment police stations.Further investigations are underway to identify other members of the module, trace its wider network in the smuggling operation.
