Gandhinagar: The state police has been successful in reuniting 1,470 missing persons with their family members under ‘Operation Milap’, the state govt said on Wednesday.
Of the 1,470 traced individuals, 852 were women, 342 were men, 42 were minor boys, and 234 were minor girls, the govt said. Surat city police reunited the highest number of 341 persons during one month, the govt said.
The campaign began across the state on May 7, and cases that remained unresolved for years were reopened, the govt said in a statement. According to police records, a total of 24,767 people have been reported missing in Gujarat since 2007.
“Although the special drive to trace missing persons has concluded, our efforts will continue. Police officers have been instructed to continue working on missing-person cases alongside their regular duties,” an official statement quoted DGP G S Malik as saying.
The statement said the campaign was carried out on the basis of technical inputs and intelligence. It involved a detailed review of old case records along with fresh field verification. Police teams examined digital records, social media activity, public transport hubs, and shelter homes. They also reconnected with complainants and witnesses to generate new leads.
