From 'The Labyrinth' to 'Exhuma' here are 4 chilling Korean movies for your Halloween watchlist

From 'The Labyrinth' to 'Exhuma' here are 4 chilling Korean movies for your Halloween watchlist

Pumpkins are popping up on the porch, and Halloween night draws closer - the perfect time to blow out the lights and have a spook-tacular movie marathon. So, anyone looking for ghosts, shamans, supernatural creatures, and things that go bump in the night, here are four must-see spooky Korean movies for Halloween.

2/5

'The Divine Fury'

A supernatural thriller in the vein of 'Constantine' or 'Island', 'The Divine Fury' puts MMA fighter Yong Hoo (Park Seo Joon) into a hidden world of dark magic and exorcisms. As he gains supernatural powers, Yong Hoo must decide which path to take: caught between the forces of light and dark. If you’re into dark lore, exorcisms, and a showdown between angels and demons, this film will deliver chills and action in equal measure.

This one leans more toward mystery and action than pure horror, with bits of humor breaking up the darker scenes. Expect some creepy black magic moments and spine-tingling exorcisms.

3/5

'Exhuma'

Kim Go Eun plays the role of Lee Hwa Rim, a shaman, tasked with investigating a mysterious illness that has afflicted a newborn baby. Assuming the child's illness might be connected with some family member's grave, Hwa Rim and her team exhume the place—but get themselves more than they bargained for. Twists from the past start to surface. 'Exhuma' is one of the most viewed Korean horror movies of the year for all the good reasons. Kim Go Eun does justice to the role with the depth of character, mystery, and eerie atmosphere.

This one's got some disturbing scenes, gore, and jump scares. It's a bit scarier than those on this list. It builds up tension with its cold, gloomy vibe, which makes it a good pick for horror fans.

4/5

'Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman'

Imagine Ghostbusters with a shaman twist: a doctor, played by Kang Dong Won, who becomes a fake shaman, and with his assistant, In Bae, played by Lee Dong Hwi, tries to exorcise his clients. That is until a mysterious woman shows up in a ghost town and requests their help in solving a very real and hauntingly connected case from the doctor's past.

It's the pick of the bunch with this being the least scary, but with just enough creepy spirits to make it a cozy, low-stakes watch. Lighthearted moments and comedy add in to make it perfect for anyone wanting a lighter Halloween vibe.

5/5

'The Labyrinth'

High school horror? Yes, please. 'The Labyrinth' follows reluctant shaman successor Hee Min (SF9's Chani), who just transferred to a new school. There, he meets So Young (Park Yoo Na), only to discover she's connected to a tragic mystery haunting the school. Before long, Hee Min and his classmates are facing shadows and spirits in the hallways, forcing him to embrace his abilities and fight the supernatural to save his crush.
