Post the pandemic, watching a new movie does not always translate into physically visiting a theatre. With the advent of OTT exclusive releases, many filmmakers now decide to skip the theatrical release of a movie and premiere it directly on OTT, thus hoping to reach a wider audience. Here are some of the biggest OTT movies that released this year

What happens when their worlds collide and oblivious to each other, the two go through a tragedy that changes their lives forever. Starring Shefali Shah and Vidya Balan, Jalsa premiered on Prime Video.

Yoga instructor Alisha, battling mental health issues and an unsatisfactory love life, falls in love with her cousin's fiance and dives into a full-fledged affair with him. However, the man she so blindly trusts has a hidden agenda that threatens to ruin her life when it comes to the fore. Starring Deepika Padukone, Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Dhairya Karwa, the movie premiered on Prime Video.

When a corrupt and uneducated politician Ganga Ram Chaudhary goes to jail, he realises the importance of education and decides to study and pass Standard 10. Back home, his outwordly docile wife is getting ready to take his place! Starring Abhisek Bachchan, Nimrat Kaur and Yami Gautam amongst others, the movie released on Netflix and JioCinema.

This noir, dark comedy is the story of a young man, who tries to make it big with unscrupulous means. Giving him company is a corrupt cop and other nefarious characters. Starring Huma Qureshi, Rajkummar Rao and Radhika Apte amongst others, the movie released on Netflix.

A domestic abuser gets the shock of his life when his wife turns the tables on him, while scripting a tale of deep love and commitment in front of the outside world. Not only this, her own mother joins her in giving the husband a taste of his own medicine. Starring Shefali Shah, Alia Bhatt and Vijay Varma, the movie released on Netflix.

Regular girl-next-door and affable school teacher Naina Jaiswal takes 16 kids hostage on a Thursday afternoon. She then puts forward a list of demands and failure to accept them will result in the kids getting killed, one by one. Starring Yami Gautam as the main lead, the movie premiered on Disney+ Hotstar.

A serial killer is on the loose in a sleepy hill station targeting only school going young girls. A newly recruited police officer and movie buff comes up with unusual ways to nab him, even as his own department does not trust him. Starring Akshay Kumar, Rakul Preet Singh, Chandrachur Singh and Sargun Mehta amongst others, the movie premiered on Disney+ Hotstar.

Freddy

Released last week, Freddy is a psychological thriller that is the story of a loner dentist Freddy Ginwala, who has trouble finding love. Enter Kainaaz and all hell breaks loose. As Freddy falls madly in love with Kainaaz, his obsession leads him him down a murky path. Starring Alaya F and Kartik Aaryan, the movie is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
