Exclusive! Idhayam actress Janani Ashok Kumar: 'I took the two-year break to work on myself and enhance my skill'
Janani Ashok Kumar, known for her captivating performances in Tamil serials, including 'Naam Iruvar Namakku Iruvar' and 'Ayutha Ezhuthu', is currently enthralling audiences with her portrayal of Bharathi in the daily soap 'Idhayam'. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes TV, Janani shares insights into her acting journey, her character portrayal, and the impact of storytelling in the realm of Tamil television.

Opening up about her journey
Janani reveals, “I had been manifesting to play a lead role in a project for quite some time. Although I received opportunities in several serials earlier, none offered the impactful lead character I desired. So, I took a break for almost two years to work on myself and enhance my skills. During this time, when I heard the storyline of 'Idhayam' for the first time, I felt a deep connection with the character of Bharathi and her daughter. I believed it was the right project for me. I ensured that I looked the part and portrayed Bharathi as authentically as possible. It still feels like a dream come true.”

Reflecting on her milestones and achievements
Janani shares, “Every day when I watch episodes of 'Idhayam', I feel immensely grateful. The journey from the inception of the serial to where it stands now has been nothing short of magical. Celebrating 200 episodes is a remarkable milestone, and it fills me with immense joy.”

Discussing the disparities in her working style as a lead
Janani elaborates, “The working style differs significantly. Earlier, while portraying character roles, I had breaks in between scenes. However, as a lead, the schedule is more rigorous, with back-to-back scenes requiring continuous focus. Despite the hectic nature, I thrive on such schedules. I like to keep myself engaged and motivated.”

Describing her character Bharathi, Janani explains
“Portraying Bharathi came with its challenges. Unlike previous roles where I could afford to let some of my own traits shine through, Bharathi demanded complete immersion. I strived to ensure that the audience saw only Bharathi on screen, not Janani. The directors and cameramen provided me with the freedom to explore and evolve, resulting in a nuanced portrayal.”

Sharing memorable moments from the set
Janani expresses, “The 'Idhayam' team feels like a family. We spend a significant amount of time together, almost like a second home. I get along really well with my team, especially when my co-actors, director, cameraman, and even light man, everybody, when we are friendly they will keep us in a comfort zone and every day is a beautiful day."
