From Gurucharan Singh to Chahat Pandey: TV celebs who opened up about their financial struggles

The glamorous world of television often masks the harsh realities faced by actors behind the scenes. Over the years, several TV celebrities, from Gurucharan Singh to Chahat Pandey, have come forward to share their personal battles with financial struggles. Their candid revelations shed light on the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry, where delayed payments, debts, and financial hardships are often part of the journey. Here’s a look:-

Gurucharan Singh

Gurucharan Singh, known for his role as Roshan Singh Sodhi in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, recently shared his financial struggles after returning to Mumbai in July following a brief absence in April. The actor revealed he is burdened with a debt of Rs 1.2 crore and has been actively searching for work to manage his expenses and support his family. Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Singh said, “I have been in Mumbai for a month looking for work. I think people love me and they want to see me. I also want to earn money to manage my expenses, take care of my mother and pay off my debts. I want to get some good work and start my second innings. I need money because I have EMI and credit card payments. I still have to ask for money and there are some good people who lend me money but my debt is accumulating.”

Chahat Pandey

Chahat Pandey, the lead actress of Hamari Bahu Silk, shared her struggles with delayed payments while working on the show. In an interview, the actress revealed that she has only been paid for one month of work, and the producers have shown no willingness to settle the remaining dues. Sharing her ordeal, Chahat said, “Whatever savings I had from my previous shows I exhausted while working on Hamari Bahu Silk. During that time, I kept asking the producers to give my hard-earned money but they kept saying that the channel had not paid them. Things got out of hand for me as I had no money. I had to pay rent for my house. The landlord kept asking me for money and I didn’t have any. How long can anyone wait for their money? Ultimately, the landlord asked me to either give him his money or vacate the place. I had no other option, I went to one of the producer’s offices and cried in front of him. I weeped as I was feeling helpless. I pleaded in front of him to give my money, but he did not pay any heed to my request.”

Kashish Kapoor

Kashish Kapoor recently opened up about her financial struggles, clarifying misconceptions about her background. In an exclusive interview, she said, “I never said I’m poor. I just come from a lower middle-class family where we have seen tough situations. Digvijay wasn’t really very close to me and would have chosen Unnati over me for the finale if given a chance. I did what I had to do but I never claimed to be poor.”

Palak Sindhwani

Palak Sindhwani, popularly known as Sonu from her television career, had shared her journey of overcoming struggles and carving a niche in the entertainment industry. Talking about her experience, Palak said, “I used to stay in PGs and have changed a lot of houses in Mumbai. I would change houses in Mumbai so that I could save Rs 2000. Finally, we shifted to a 1BHK, then a 2BHK apartment, and now finally I am staying in a 3BHK apartment which is also on rent. I want to buy my own house and I am planning to see when it happens. My growth has been steady and I consider myself lucky that I’ve seen all the phases in my life.”

Rashami Desai

Rashami Desai recently shared her inspiring journey of resilience, revealing the hardships she faced before achieving success. Coming from a modest background, she credited her mother for providing an education despite struggles. Rashami recalled a turbulent phase in 2017 marked by family disputes and financial difficulties, leaving her with zero savings and debts amounting to crores. Her fortunes changed with the show Dil Se Dil Tak, which became a turning point in her life. She used her earnings to clear debts, secure her future, and focus on rebuilding her life. During this time, she distanced herself from distractions and devoted herself entirely to work, showcasing her determination to rise above adversity.

Zaan Khan

Actor Zaan Malik had revealed they have not received payments for nearly eight months of work since June 2019. According to Zaan, they began shooting in April 2019, with the first payment for 15 days delayed by 100 days. Despite the show’s success, payments remained inconsistent, with a cheque issued to him eventually bouncing. When actors demanded their dues, the producers reportedly dismissed their concerns, saying they were free to take legal action. Zaan further stated that the producers claim financial losses, despite allegedly receiving payments from the channel. So far, the actors have only received seven percent of their dues, leaving them in a helpless situation.
