Beloved Dada

His family addresses him as Maharaj, fellow cricketers call him as Dada while Geoffrey Boycott used to call him ‘Prince of Calcutta’. And from 8-80, he is beloved Dada. Why us, ask the young participants who appear on Dadagiri who often say ‘Tumi toh Dada’! (Photo: Facebook)

Dadagiri

There is no doubt that it is Sourav Ganguly’s Dadagiri on Bengali TV. A show that is aired only on weekends, can compete with all other daily soaps that are being aired 7 days a week. And why wouldn’t be. Dadagiri Unlimited recently completed its 9th season which was equally successful. (Photo: A still from Dadagiri 9's finale)

Wittiness and eloquence

Once celebrity participant Sonalee Chaudhuri asked Dada to choose the starcast for the classic Hindi film 'Sholay'. The catch was, the cast should be cricketers. Dada left the participants clean bowled when he promptly replied that Virender Sehwag will be Sholay’s Veeru if he has to play Jay’s role. When asked who would play the famous Gabbar Singh, Dada quickly said, “Let Greg Chappell perform Gabbar’s job.” He also keeps talking about Dona and refers to her as ‘Madam’ while narrating his personal experience.
