The largest tree in the world is under wildfire threat

General Sherman, the world’s largest tree in California’s Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park is in danger. California is reporting a forest fire of massive proportions after a lightning storm on September 9 has burned the western part of the forest. Now the 275 ft tall sequoia tree is in danger of catching fire. Firefighters are working to try and protect the tree from getting destroyed.
The tree, which is called General Sherman, is 2200 years old, and is said to be the biggest in the world. Just last year, a wildfire killed thousands of sequoias, which were said to be thousands of years old. The current devastating forest fire is now threatening to destroy the grand old tree. Fire fighters here have now been on alert for 65 days, which is a new record.

Fires in the western part of America are harder to fight these days since drought, and heatwaves. It is warmer here these days when compared to temperature some 30 years ago, and the weather thus tends to get extreme. The incidence of wildfires have also increased in recent years.
As per reports the fire has reached Long Meadow Grove in the forest. According to news last heard from the region, the flames were about 1.5 km away from the Giant Forest, which has some 2000 sequoias. Fire fighters are now using aluminum wrappings to protect the trees, while also starting small fires on purpose so as to remove any trees or vegetation that could potentially carry the wildfire any further.
