Rome is gradually reopening tourist hotspots to visitors

As Coronavirus took a toll on almost all parts of the world, lockdown was one of the preliminary measures that countries resorted to. Now, countries around the world are easing restrictions and opening up to businesses, albeit gradually. Similarly, the tourism sector is also seen coming out of the lurch after a hiatus of two to three months. Thus, tourist spots are also slowly opening up and gearing to welcome visitors.
European countries are opening up borders as well, and the rest of the world is following suit gradually. Meanwhile, Rome is trying to figure out how to navigate around this entire thing.

Earlier this month, a long queue of visitors was seen outside the Vatican museums, when they opened doors after the three-month Coronavirus lockdown. Also, Rome’s other crowd-puller attraction, the Colosseum, reopened for visitors; it witnesses more television crews than the visitors. While a number of famed tourist spots reopen to the public, most of them will be welcoming only a sizable number of visitors.
The tourism industry here is currently operating at a fraction of what it usually witnesses at this time of the year, as nearly 70 per cent of tourists visiting Italy’s popular landmarks, museums, and major hotspots come from outside of the country. However, tour operators are hopeful of the fact that these numbers may witness a surge gradually, after restrictions on visitors from countries of European Union are lifted.

Reportedly, Italians are now allowed to move around freely, whereas visitors from the EU are being welcomed here without any quarantine requirements.

Although tourist spots are reopening, precautionary measures are still in place; gatherings of people in public places remain forbidden, wearing face masks is mandatory in public transport and in enclosed public spaces, including on aeroplanes.
