Peru’s Inca Trail reopens for the first time since the pandemic broke out

Travellers would be glad to learn that the Inca Trail has now made a comeback with its permits going on sale for the first time since the pandemic broke out last year. The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most iconic hiking routes in the world, and is based in Peru. The trail is now open to the public, but with only half its usual number of visitors. Hence, if you wish to embark on this epic journey you would have to book your permit at the earliest.
Peru’s Inca Trail will accept visitors from July 15, and travel agencies have already been permitted to sell the tickets, or permits. At the end of this epic hike is the 550-year-old Machu Picchu, which is one of the world’s foremost tourist attractions.

The Inca Trail will reopen this year with 250 daily permits, instead of its regular 500. Yet another important measure taken by the government in Peru is social distancing, with insistence on all protocols to be followed during the hike. But that is not all, as hikers will also be subjected to temperature screenings. Moreover, you will have to follow cleaning protocols that would require you to clean your tents and equipment; wearing masks will also be mandatory.
Peru, at present, has stopped its quarantine rules for visitors except for those from India, South Africa, and Brazil. However, the country requires you to fill in an affidavit, and also show a negative PCR test, or an antigen test report. This rule also applies to those who have been vaccinated.
