Passenger trains cancelled till Aug 12, only special trains to run: Railway Board

Taking into consideration the rising number of Coronavirus cases in the country, the Indian Railway Board has taken a decision to cancel all regular time-tabled passenger trains, mail/express and suburban trains up to August 12.

As per the statement given by the Railway Board, this implies that all the train tickets booked for regular time-tabled trains for travelling between July 1 and August 12 stand cancelled. The Railway Board order also stated that complete refund on the cancelled train tickets will be given to the passengers.
According to the latest reports, the limited special suburban trains, which had begun to run recently in Mumbai to ferry personnel providing essential services as identified by the local authorities will also continue to operate without any obstacle.

The Indian Railways had cancelled its passenger train services acting on the lines of Government of India's order to implement nationwide lockdown due to the pandemic. The cancellation continued till May 3.
Again, in May, the Indian Railways temporarily discontinued operations of regular trains till June 30. However, special trains and Shramik Special trains were allowed to run.

While Shramik Special trains were run to ferry migrant labours to their home states across India, Special trains were introduced on tracks to allow the inter-state travel of passengers stuck in different towns and cities.
