A delightful news for the wildlife lovers! The famous Jim Corbett tiger reserve has opened its gate to travellers. Not only this, the reserve is now open for year round tourism. Set in Uttarakhand, Corbett is renowned for its population of tigers. The park was shut down to travellers during the second wave of COVID-19.Now, with COVID numbers going down in the country, all the ranges in the park have opened for tourism.
Wildlife lovers all over are also quite happy with the new development. On the first day of the opening, the park registered around 50 bookings for day safaris.
Corbett Director said, "Opening the reserve for round-the-year tourism will help people whose livelihoods are connected with it. Corbett's revenues have been hit hard by the Covid pandemic and a measure like this will help offset the impact."
A few days back, Harak Singh Rawat, the Forest and Environment Minister of Uttarakhand, had announced that Corbett and Rajaji tiger reserves will remain open for tourists the whole year. However, wildlife experts don’t agree with the decision and believe that this is not good for animals inhabiting the reserves.
