India get’s world’s longest railway platform in Karnataka

Karnataka is now home to the world's longest railway station. If reports are to go by, Indian Railways' South Western Railway(SWR) zone's Hubballi has its name registered in the Guinness Book of World Records now, for having the world's longest railway platform at Shri Siddharoodha Swamiji station.

It is a 1507 m long platform that has been built at a cost of about INR 20 crore, and is a part of remodelling of the Hubballi yard and to facilitate running of additional trains in future.
This information has been shared by the Ministry of Railways recently, after which Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed delight on this development and underlined that it is not just extension of a platform or any record, but it is forwarding the thinking which gives priority to infrastructure development.

Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Railway station Hubballi, is an prominent junction in Karnataka, and serves as a major hub of trade and commerce in the North Karnataka region. This railway station is situated on the junction connecting railway lines towards Bengaluru (Davanagere side), Hosapete (Gadag side), and Vasco-Da-Gama/Belagavi (Londa side).
The PM added that 21st century India is moving ahead by modernising its cities and added that Hubballi-Dharwad has been included in the smart city project, which will take both the regions to new heights.

If reports are to go by, the total estimated cost of these projects is around INR 520 crore. The said developments are expected to enhance the quality of life by creating hygienic, functional, and safe public spaces and transforming the town into a futuristic urban centre.

While laying another foundation stone for the electrification of Hosapete – Hubballi – Tinaighat section, he noted that these efforts will help to boost economic development of the region and also promote tourism at the same time.
