Threadgill's World Headquarters
Comfort food with a side order of history
Noteworthy for: Threadgill's serves up Southern fare in a living shrine to Austin's musical heritage.

Austin music industry legend Eddie Wilson managed the storied 1970s club known as the Armadillo World Headquarters, and he's used memorabilia from that era to decorate his new culinary venture. Concert posters and candid photos document life at the Armadillo, where hippies and cowboys first reached a truce over beer and herbs, and the piano hanging from the ceiling was once played by Jerry Lee Lewis and Count Basie.
The food also reflects the region's history, with traditional favorites like chicken-fried steak, chicken and dumplings, and meatloaf, as well as vegetarian options including buttery carrots and stewed okra. Save room for the grand finale: strawberry rhubarb pie.
