If you like outdoor activities, then trekking at Yana is something you should not miss. This particular trek however has to be planned well as timing is the key. Yana is located around 60 km away from Murudeshwar and tour operators from Murudeshwar can arrange a car that can take you to Yana early in the morning. The drive may vary from 45minutes to an hour. It would be best to cover maximum land before the scorching sun shines bright. The trekker’s paradise, Yana has multiple trails that one can choose from. Most paths provide a range of flora and fauna along with rock formations, water streams and lush green forested land. The highlight is the sighting of the two large limestone peaks—Bhairaveshwara Shikara and Mohini Shikara that are 120 feet and 90 feet high respectively. Below the Bhairaveshwara rock is a natural cave formation and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Since this is a forest trek, trekkers must carry pest repellents, hats and appropriate clothes and shoes. It is also advisable not to walk close to the water stream as there are quite a few leeches spotted in the area. Besides trekking, you can even try your hands at rock climbing. The best time to visit Yana is around October to January.
