Royal Palace

The Royal Palace stands tall in the center of Phnom Penh. It looks out towards the river and is an impressive focal point with its traditional architecture and ornate design. During festival times during the year, the palace lights up with thousands of fairy lights, providing a Disney-perfect image of a home fit for a king.
The palace is the official residence the current King Sihamoni and his mother- the king’s father passing away in 2012. The areas open to viewing are the throne hall, Chan Chhaya Pavilion and a small number of building surrounding it. The Silver Pagoda resides inside the palace walls and is also great to visit while at the palace. The pagoda- officially named Wat Preak Keo – gets it’s name after King Sihanouk commissioned it to be covered with 5,000 silver tiles.

The park in front of the palace is a meeting place for tourists and local visitors alike. Sunset sees a variety of local food options, balloons and toys on offer- providing a fun and festive atmosphere.
Visitors are welcome every day between 7.30 am-11 am and 2 pm-5 pm. Admission is 25,000 riel (6.25) and visitors must be sure to honour the modest dress code of knee-length shorts, pants or skirts and tops that cover to the elbow. There is an option to hire appropriate clothing but this is not available at times so best to be prepared to avoid disappointment.
